▶What are multiples?
Multiples of a number are what you get when you multiply it by 1, 2, 3 and so on. Multiples of 4 are 4, 8, 12, 16, 20. Every number is a multiple of itself.
▶How do I use the multiples explorer?
Pick a number with the slider. The lab lists its first several multiples and marks them on a number line. Try 6 and 8 and see where their multiples meet first.
▶When are multiples useful?
Buses may leave the stand every 15 minutes, so timings are multiples of 15: 7:00, 7:15, 7:30. Packing items in groups of 6 or 12 uses multiples too.
▶Fun fact about multiples
Multiples of any number keep going forever; there is no biggest one. The smallest common multiple of two numbers is called their LCM, which helps in adding fractions later in higher classes.
